Ghazal
This ghazal captures the acute anguish of separation and profound loneliness, where every passing moment without the beloved feels like an insurmountable burden. Through imagery of desolation and unfinished aspirations, the poet evokes deep melancholy and the inherent futility of human endeavors.

The house stirs wild dread, the town lies desolate and bare; without you, every single moment is a mountain to bear.
The house feels terrifying and the whole settlement lies desolate; without you, every single moment has become as heavy and unbearable as a mountain.

To this day the palace of deeds remains incomplete, though time and again the scaffolding has been raised and torn down.
To this day, the palace of deeds remains unfinished, even though scaffolding has been tied and untied repeatedly.

To reach the summit lies beyond my power; O longing heart, this mountain proved too steep.
Reaching the peak is impossible for me; O desire, this mountain has turned out to be far too high.

We too know well how to pursue the game,
Yet hunt behind no pious blind, O preacher.
O ascetic, we too know how to hunt, but we do not pursue our prey by hiding behind a screen or blind.

If the heart is not illuminated, of what use are they, even if chandeliers blaze bright in a hundred night-chambers?
If the heart itself is not illuminated, of what use are chandeliers blazing in a hundred night-chambers?

Eid and Nowruz are festive only with the heart; if the heart is absent, the world is but a barren waste.
Eid, Nowruz, and all festivities are meaningful only when the heart is engaged; if the heart is absent, the entire world feels desolate.

The field lies right beside the road, the traveler mounted on his steed; the crop is flourishing and green, and low remains the boundary hedge.
The field lies right beside the road and the traveler is mounted; the crop is lush and green, and the boundary fence is low.

Some slip of the preacher must have been caught out; / These days, far fewer rebukes on us are cast about.
It seems some slip or mistake of the preacher has been caught out, because these days his scolding and rebukes upon us have decreased quite a bit.

O Hali, opening your mouth in vain, what trouble you have stirred: you made an enemy of the whole world with a needless word.
O Hali, by speaking out unnecessarily, you have ruined your relationship with the entire world.
