Ghazal
तस्कीं को हम न रोएँ जो ज़ौक़-ए-नज़र मिले
This ghazal explores intense longing for the beloved, valuing a glimpse of their beauty above all comforts. It expresses a poignant request to protect the beloved's privacy, even in death, and a passionate demand for wine from the Saqi. The poet also conveys a yearning for indirect communication, asking a friend to deliver his greetings.

तस्कीं को हम न रोएँ जो ज़ौक़-ए-नज़र मिले
हूरान-ए-ख़ुल्द में तिरी सूरत मगर मिले
We wouldn't cry for solace, if the joy of sight we found, Provided that your face among heaven's houris were unbound.
We would not weep for solace if we found joy in seeing, provided that your face could be found even among the houris of paradise.

अपनी गली में मुझ को न कर दफ़्न ब'अद-ए-क़त्ल
मेरे पते से ख़ल्क़ को क्यूँ तेरा घर मिले
Do not bury me in your lane after my murder,Lest people find your home by tracing my address.

साक़ी-गरी की शर्म करो आज वर्ना हम
हर शब पिया ही करते हैं मय जिस क़दर मिले
Today, show some grace in your cup-bearing, else know that we, you see,Each night, will drink the wine, whatever quantity there be.
Today, show some grace in your cup-bearing, o saki, otherwise, we habitually drink whatever amount of wine we get every night.

तुझ से तो कुछ कलाम नहीं लेकिन ऐ नदीम
मेरा सलाम कहियो अगर नामा-बर मिले
I have no words for him, yet O Nadeem, I pray,Convey my salaams, should the messenger cross your way.
O Nadeem, I have no direct words for you, but if you meet the letter-carrier, please convey my greetings (salaams) to him.

तुम को भी हम दिखाएँ कि मजनूँ ने क्या किया
फ़ुर्सत कशाकश-ए-ग़म-ए-पिन्हाँ से गर मिले
We too would show you what Majnun did,If from hidden grief's struggle, a moment's leisure we find.
We would also show you what Majnun did, if we find any leisure from the struggle of our hidden sorrow.

लाज़िम नहीं कि ख़िज़्र की हम पैरवी करें
जाना कि इक बुज़ुर्ग हमें हम-सफ़र मिले
It's not necessary that we follow Khizr's way,Though we know a venerable one accompanies us on our journey.
It is not necessary that we follow Khizr's path, even though we have found a venerable elder as our travel companion.

ऐ साकिनान-ए-कूचा-ए-दिलदार देखना
तुम को कहीं जो 'ग़ालिब'-ए-आशुफ़्ता-सर मिले
O residents of the beloved's lane, do watch out, Should you encounter 'Ghalib', the distraught-headed one.
O residents of the beloved's lane, do keep an eye out, should you happen to encounter 'Ghalib', who is in a distraught state.
