I have become a legend in the lore of love ever since, ever since I was driven mad by the magic of your glance.
Ever since I became crazed with love by your gaze, I have turned into a legend in the world of romance.

O beloved, in your grace appear just once before my eyes; for without you, to this whole wide world I turn a stranger.
O beloved, kindly grace me with your presence just once, for without you I have become a complete stranger to the entire world.

Ask not of the depth of my devotion, O candle of beauty's gathering; for ages I have been a moth, yearning for a single glimpse of your radiant light.
O candle of the assembly of beauty, do not ask about the extent of my devotion; for a very long time, I have been a moth yearning for a glimpse of you.

Perchance from some direction that treasure of grace might come; for this reason alone, from head to toe, a desolation I become.
Perhaps that treasure of beauty and virtue might arrive from somewhere; it is for this reason that I am turning completely into a desolation.

Forever in my heart I bear a madness for the tresses of the fair; enamored of the very chains of love, I am driven mad.
I always harbor a madness for the tresses of the beautiful in my heart, and I am being driven mad by the chains of love.
6
It is only right if I heed not your counsel, O moralist; having drunk deep from love's cup, I am lost in intoxication.
It is completely justified if I do not listen to your advice, O counselor, because having drunk from the cup of love, I am intoxicated.
7
To whom, O Vali, shall I go to tell my mournful plight? / From head to toe, consumed by grief, I have become an abode of sorrow.
O Vali, to whom should I go and narrate my condition? Consumed by sorrow, I have become an embodiment of grief from head to toe.
