अफ़्लाक से आता है नालों का जवाब आख़िर

अफ़्लाक से आता है नालों का जवाब आख़िर
करते हैं ख़िताब आख़िर उठते हैं हिजाब आख़िर
From the heavens arrives an answer to my cries at last; / They deign to address me, and the veils are cast aside at last.
At last, an answer to the cries of lamentation arrives from the heavens. Ultimately, they deign to speak, and all the veils are lifted.

अहवाल-ए-मोहब्बत में कुछ फ़र्क़ नहीं ऐसा
सोज़ ओ तब-ओ-ताब अव्वल सोज़ ओ तब-ओ-ताब आख़िर
In the condition of love, no difference is ever found: the fire, fever, and torment at first; the fire, fever, and torment in the end.
There is no difference in the state of love from beginning to end; it starts with burning passion and restlessness, and it concludes with the very same burning and torment.

मैं तुझ को बताता हूँ तक़दीर-ए-उमम क्या है
शमशीर-ओ-सिनाँ अव्वल ताऊस-ओ-रुबाब आख़िर
Let me tell you what the destiny of nations is: first the sword and spear, the peacock and lute at the end.
I tell you what the destiny of nations is: first come the sword and the spear, and in the end come the peacock and the lute.

मय-ख़ाना-ए-यूरोप के दस्तूर निराले हैं
लाते हैं सुरूर अव्वल देते हैं शराब आख़िर
Strange are the ways of Europe's tavern hall: first comes intoxication, and wine is served last of all.
The customs of Europe's tavern are strange; they induce intoxication first and serve the wine only at the very end.

क्या दबदबा-ए-नादिर क्या शौकत-ए-तैमूरी
हो जाते हैं सब दफ़्तर ग़र्क़-ए-मय-ए-नाब आख़िर
What was the terror of Nadir, what was the majesty of Timur? In the end, all scrolls of empire are drowned in purest wine.
Whether it is the dread of Nadir Shah or the grandeur of Timur, in the end, all the scrolls and records of worldly power drown in pure wine.

ख़ल्वत की घड़ी गुज़री जल्वत की घड़ी आई
छुटने को है बिजली से आग़ोश-ए-सहाब आख़िर
The hour of seclusion has passed, the hour of manifestation is near; from the embrace of the cloud at last, the lightning prepares to appear.
The time of seclusion has passed and the moment of revelation has arrived; at last, the lightning is about to break free from the embrace of the clouds.

था ज़ब्त बहुत मुश्किल इस सैल-ए-मआ'नी का
कह डाले क़लंदर ने असरार-ए-किताब आख़िर
To stem this surging flood of meaning proved too hard a task; at last, the free-souled mystic revealed the hidden secrets of the Book.
It was very difficult to hold back this flood of profound meanings, so ultimately, the qalandar (free mystic) revealed the secrets of the Book.
