काम आख़िर जज़्बा-ए-बे-इख़्तियार आ ही गया
दिल कुछ इस सूरत से तड़पा उन को प्यार आ ही गया
At last, this helpless passion proved its power after all; / The heart writhed in such anguish that love touched their heart after all.

जब निगाहें उठ गईं अल्लाह-री मेराज-शौक़
देखता क्या हूँ वो जान-ए-इंतिज़ार आ ही गया
The moment my eyes were raised—O Lord, the zenith of desire! And what do I behold? The very soul of my waiting has arrived at last.
As soon as my eyes were raised—O God, what a peak of longing—what do I see but the very beloved I had been longing for has finally arrived.

हाए ये हुस्न-ए-तसव्वुर का फ़रेब-ए-रंग-ओ-बू
मैं ये समझा जैसे वो जान-ए-बहार आ ही गया
Ah, this illusion of color and scent born of imagination's grace; I truly believed the very soul of spring had finally arrived.
Ah, such was the illusion of color and fragrance created by my imagination that I truly thought the soul of spring, my beloved, had actually arrived.

हाँ सज़ा दे ऐ ख़ुदा-ए-इश्क़ ऐ तौफ़ीक़-ए-ग़म
फिर ज़बान-ए-बे-अदब पर ज़िक्र यार आ ही गया
Yes, punish me, O God of Love, O grace of grief! / Once again, upon this insolent tongue, the beloved's name has slipped.
Yes, punish me, O God of love and granter of grief, for this disrespectful tongue has once again spoken of the beloved.

इस तरह ख़ुश हूँ किसी के वादा-ए-फ़र्दा पे मैं
दर-हक़ीक़त जैसे मुझ को ए'तिबार आ ही गया
I am so overjoyed by someone's promise of tomorrow, as though, in truth, I have actually come to believe it.

हाए काफ़िर-दिल की ये काफ़िर जुनूँ-अंगेज़ियाँ
तुम को प्यार आए न आए मुझ को प्यार आ ही गया
Oh, the relentless, frenzy-stirring ways of this infidel heart! Whether love softens you or not, love has seized me at last.
Oh, the madness-stirring restlessness of this obstinate heart! Whether you feel any love or not, I have ultimately fallen in love with you.

दफ़अ'तन पर्दा उठा और पर्दा-दार आ ही गया

जान ही दे दी 'जिगर' ने आज पा-ए-यार पर
उम्र भर की बे-क़रारी को क़रार आ ही गया
