Ghazal
This ghazal portrays the state of complete absorption and surrender in love, where the lover forgets all worldly cruelties, past grievances, and even his own fidelity. In this transcendent emotional space, nothing remains in his heart and memory except the pure essence of love itself.

Neither the world's cruelties nor my own fidelity do I recall; now nothing remains in my memory, save love through it all.
I remember neither the cruelties of the world nor my own faithfulness; now I recall nothing at all except love.

A complaint was on my lips, yet even that I could not recall; perhaps the one who forgets me has remembered after all.
A complaint was on my lips, but I could not recall even that; perhaps the one who always forgets me has remembered me.

That melody your glance had first awakened long ago, / Still echoes in my memory—a song without instrument or sound.
I still remember today that melody without any instrument or sound, which was first awakened by your glance.
4
Whenever another beauty is ardent in showering grace, in that very moment, I remember that beloved all the more.
Whenever any beautiful person showers kindness and affection upon me, at that very moment I remember my beloved all the more.
5
Who knows what has befallen the folk of passion's madness—they recall neither the grace of dying, nor the art of living.
Who knows what has happened to the passion-maddened lovers; they no longer remember the way to live, nor the way to die.
6
Long has it been since love met its tragic end, yet still / The sound of your heart beating echoes in my memory.
A long time has passed since that tragedy of love occurred, yet even now, I still remember the sound of your heartbeat.
7
Yes, yes—what concern have you with the fury of my grief? And yes, yes—I too recall no soothing breeze from your hem.
Yes, what concern do you have with the intensity of my grief? And indeed, I too no longer remember the soothing breeze of your hem.
8
I had all but renounced the ways and rites of madness; why, at such an hour, must the memory of your stumbling step return?
I had almost given up the ways and customs of madness in love; why did the memory of your stumbling steps come back to me at such a time?
9
Where is the pleasure if I must tell my whereabouts myself? Recall some forgotten, signature grace that was your very own.
What pleasure is there if I have to tell you my whereabouts myself? Instead, recall some forgotten, special gesture or charm of your own.
