तन्हा नहीं हूँ गर दिल-ए-दीवाना साथ है

तन्हा नहीं हूँ गर दिल-ए-दीवाना साथ है
वो हर्ज़ा-गर्द हूँ कि परी-ख़ाना साथ है
I am not alone as long as my wild heart is with me; such a wanderer am I that a realm of fairies accompanies me.

हंगामा इक परी की सवारी का देखना
क्या धूम है कि सैकड़ों दीवाना साथ है
Behold the grand commotion of a fairy's passing ride; what splendid fanfare, that hundreds of mad lovers follow in her train!

दिल में हैं लाख तरह के हीले भरे हुए
फिर मशवरा को आईना ओ शाना साथ है
A hundred thousand guiles already brim within the heart; yet mirror and comb are still kept close, to counsel every art.
Though the heart is already filled with countless pretexts and tricks, a mirror and a comb are still kept close at hand for counsel.

रोज़-ए-सियह में साथ कोई दे तो जानिए
जब तक फ़रोग़-ए-शम्अ है परवाना साथ है
True companionship is known if someone stands by in dark days; the moth remains beside the candle only as long as its flame shines bright.
True companionship is proven only if someone stands by in days of misfortune, for the moth stays with the candle only as long as its light shines bright.

देता नहीं है साथ तही-दस्त का कोई
जब तक कि मय है शीशे में पैमाना साथ है
No one stands by the one who is empty-handed; only as long as wine fills the flask does the cup keep it company.

सीखा हूँ मै-कदे में तरीक़-ए-फ़रोतनी
जब तक कि सर है सज्दा-ए-शुकराना साथ है
I learned in the tavern the gentle path of humility; as long as this head endures, a prostration of thanksgiving remains with me.

जो बे-बसर हैं ढूँडते फिरते हैं दूर दूर
और हर क़दम पे जल्वा-ए-जानाना साथ है
Those devoid of sight wander searching far and wide, though at every step the Beloved's radiant presence walks beside.
Those who lack sight wander far and wide searching for the Beloved, even though the Beloved's radiant manifestation accompanies them at every step.

क्या ख़ौफ़ हो हमें ज़न-ए-दुनिया के मक्र का
अपनी मदद को हिम्मत-ए-मर्दाना साथ है
Why should we fear the cunning wiles of this world, when valiant courage stands by our side to aid us?
Why should we fear the deception and cunning of this world, when our own brave courage is with us to aid us?

ग़म की किताब से दिल-ए-सद-पारा कम नहीं
जिस बज़्म में गए यही अफ़्साना साथ है
No less than a tome of sorrow is this heart torn a hundredfold; into whichever gathering I entered, this very tale accompanied me.

मानिंद-ए-गर्द-बाद हूँ ख़ाना-ब-दोश मैं
सहरा में हूँ मगर मिरा काशाना साथ है
Like a whirlwind, I wander nomadic with home upon my shoulder; though lost in the desert, my abode travels always with me.
