ग़ैर को मुँह लगा के देख लिया

ग़ैर को मुँह लगा के देख लिया
झूट सच आज़मा के देख लिया
I gave favor to the rival and saw what came to pass; every truth and falsehood I have put to the test at last.

कितनी फ़रहत-फ़ज़ा थी बू-ए-वफ़ा
उस ने दिल को जला के देख लिया

कभी ग़श में रहा शब-ए-वा'दा
कभी गर्दन उठा के देख लिया
On the night of the promised meeting, at times I lay in a faint; and at times, lifting my head, I strained to see.

जिंस-ए-दिल है ये वो नहीं सौदा
हर जगह से मँगा के देख लिया

लोग कहते हैं चुप लगी है तुझे
हाल-ए-दिल भी सुना के देख लिया
People say that silence has taken hold of you; / I have even tried telling the tale of my heart.

जाओ भी क्या करोगे मेहर-ओ-वफ़ा
बार-हा आज़मा के देख लिया
Leave it be, what use now is this show of love and loyalty? Time and again, I have put you to the test and seen.

ज़ख़्म-ए-दिल में नहीं है क़तरा-ए-ख़ूँ
ख़ूब हम ने दिखा के देख लिया
Not a single drop of blood remains in the wound of the heart; having displayed it thoroughly, we have seen it for ourselves.

इधर आईना है उधर दिल है
जिस को चाहा उठा के देख लिया
Here lies the mirror, and there rests the heart; whichever one fancied was lifted to gaze upon.

उन को ख़ल्वत-सरा में बे-पर्दा
साफ़ मैदान पा के देख लिया

'दाग़' ने ख़ूब आशिक़ी का मज़ा
जल के देखा जला के देख लिया
Dagh has truly tasted the ecstasy of love—having burned in its flame, and having set others ablaze.
