Ghazal
This ghazal expresses a spirit of carefree detachment and mystical self-sufficiency, highlighting that the seeker, the cupbearer, and wisdom are ultimately unified within oneself. It captures the essence of spiritual intoxication and philosophical introspection.

Whether anyone serves wine or not, a carefree reveler am I; O Cupbearer, tucked beneath my own arm, the flask of wine am I.
Whether anyone offers me wine or not, I am a carefree drinker on my own; O cupbearer, I carry the flask of wine under my own arm.

The heedless and the watchful are reflections cast in a single mirror; in this whirlpool of wonder, both the fool and the sage are You.
The careless and the alert are merely reflections within a single mirror; in this whirlpool of bewilderment, the ignorant is You and the wise is also You.

Why should my prayer be beholden to an angel's wing? My ecstatic sighs can traverse the skies on their own.
Why should my prayer be indebted to the wing of an angel to reach the heavens? My ecstatic sighs are themselves capable of traversing the skies.

Strange it is that Khizr should still crave the Water of Life, and stranger still that in the desert's skirts you dwell in seclusion.
It is astonishing that Khizr should still desire the elixir of life, and furthermore, that you dwell in seclusion at the edge of the desert.

The endless span of mortal desire lies ahead, yet time granted is so brief; whom shall one ask for the way, when the very footprints stand stunned in disbelief?
A vast destination of endless hopes lies ahead while allotted time is very short; whom should one ask for the way when the footprints themselves are frozen in bewilderment?

We claim not such exalted sight to deign to view the Divine; yet those who deem my vision short are blind to light and sign.
We are not so far-sighted or visionary that we demand a direct sight of God, but those who consider us short-sighted are blind themselves.

The rose is wounded head to foot, yet it remains all ears; not entirely in vain, then, are the frantic nightingale's tears.
The rose is wounded from head to foot, yet it listens with rapt attention; the cries of the enraptured nightingale are not entirely without effect.

Why should I blame desire for stretching out a begging hand? / It retorts: 'By your own hands, disgraced before the world you stand.'
How can I complain to greed about spreading my hands to beg, when it replies that I have disgraced myself in the world by my own actions.
9
From us, O darling of luxury, you ought to veil your face; for we ever heave sighs, and mirror-bright is your grace.
O one living in luxury and comfort, you ought to veil your face from us; for we constantly heave sighs, and your face is delicate and bright like a mirror.
